Stroke Patients: Improvements with Neurofeedback

Read stories of Advanced Neurotherapy clients who have experienced improvements with neurofeedback after experiencing a life-threatening stroke. By helping improve brain function, neurofeedback is able help people return to living life normally. Dr. Ross has successfully treated many types of stroke using neurotherapy including perinatal strokes, pediatric strokes, and those resulting in cerebral palsy.

Barbara, 50’s, Stroke

Barbara* is a shy, rather reticent woman who came to Advanced Neurotherapy after recovering from a stroke.  She was most disturbed about her fear of falling due to the problems with her gait the stroke had caused her.  Because of this fear, she was afraid to do simple tasks like going to the mailbox to get her mail or cleaning her bathtub in her home. After a number of neurofeedback sessions, she was more upbeat and outgoing, able to talk much more with greater ease. One day, she came in for her session and proudly announced that she was getting her own mail. She had made great improvements in her steadiness, gaining confidence in her ability to move around with ease. Weeks later, she was able to comfortably clean her bathtub while feeling stable and in control.

Father John, 60’s, Stroke

Father John* is a warm, empathic priest who has a gracious smile that immediately puts you at ease. He came to Advanced Neurotherapy for neurofeedback sessions because one of his parishioners thought neurofeedback might help him.  Three years prior, he had suffered a stroke and now had to walk with a cane. During his consultation with Dr. Ross, he explained he had difficulty with his gait and balance, saying, “I feel very unsteady.” He also explained he was having difficulty keeping his schedule straight. He had an active life as a priest and would often see parishioners to give them spiritual guidance, but he was feeling badly because from time to time he would not be in his office when a client was scheduled.

As he progressed in his treatment, his gait improved greatly, being much more steady without fear of falling.  His organization improved, including his desired ability to accurately keep track of his schedule.  One day after mass, a parishioner who knew him well approached him and delightedly remarked on how clearly he was speaking, because he was no longer slurring his words.
